Joby, I appreciate the kind words! As far as GCA, I reached out to Ran and he hooked me up. I must have lurked on that site for 6 years before I finally had the nerve to ask for access. I usually stick the topics I know best.

I have a fairly basic point and shoot camera (Canon PowerShot SX120 IS). I "upgraded" in the summer of 2010 from a 4MP camera to the 10MP PowerShot. I admittedly don't take a lot of pictures around the green, but I guess that's my style. I like showing my readers the tee shots, plus any other features I think are worth mentioning. With this blog, I try to give a good view with pictures and words of courses that don't get a lot of detailed attention from other sources. Plus, it helps me keep track of where I've played.

Hey, great site! Just stumbled on you today through Golf Club Atlas. How does one get a log-in ID for GCA, anyway?

Anyway, insightful course details and great pix on your course reviews. You have a good eye and do a better job of capturing elevations changes and a good vantage point to give a good feel for the hole (better than some golf mags). I was curious what type of camera you use?
Check out my golf travel site at www.fatguygolf.net, an amalgamation of personal and magazine course, bar, and restaurant recommendations from the golf mags and other sources. Drop me a line sometime.

Cole, glad to hear good news about Harbor Links. I think it actually works to their benefit not to be a year-around course. I'll do my best to get back there in 2012 and report on what I see.

I read your link about Harbor Links at Sagamore Resort. I actually just played there around Thanksgiving. The course was very lush and seemed to be making its way back to full recovery. They also mentioned that they would not be a year round course anymore. But if you get the chance to play it again this spring, I highly recommend it.

Henry, I've played The Links at Rising Star (formerly Grand Victoria) a few times. It's not bad. If you're at Rising Star to hit the casino and you're into golf, it's worth a play. Wind off the Ohio River can certainly be a factor.

If you're looking for a links style course, then i recommend the Links at Rising Star. It was in great condition and is the only true links course in the tri-state area. enjoy!

You might enjoy Martinsville CC. Hilly course with a lot of interesting holes.

Around Indy, you might like Plum Creek in Carmel...a Pete Dye design. Another somewhat unique one is Heartland Crossing in Camby...this was a Nick Price design....crazy bunkers.

Down south Fuzzy's course in Sellersburg is pretty decent...Covered Bridge. He also did Timbergate in Edinburgh..its ok.

Mark, You're right about Harrison Hills. Not sure why that wasn't on my list to begin with. It's now added.

Keith,

Thanks for the kind comments. I won't ever have to be convinced to stay away from the back tees because I know I don't have the game for it. :)

If you're going through Cincinnati towards Indiana, it makes it difficult to recommend Stonelick Hills as that's on the complete opposite side of town. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I think it's the best public option in the Cincinnati area. I haven't made it up to Shaker Run since they re-opened the Woodlands 9, so I can't specifically comment on that. And Lassing Pointe is pretty far out of the way in Northern Kentucky.

Sharon Woods is a decent option if you're going around the 275 loop and it's not too expensive. And there's always Grand Oak, my current home course. It's about 5 miles off I-74 in Harrison, OH, and it certainly has its quirks.

I'd probably say drive completely through Cincinnati, and spend a day driving up I-65 from Otter Creek to Indianapolis. The quality of public golf in Indianapolis far exceeds that of Cincinnati.

If you were driving across I-70 to get to Indiana, I'd say stop off at Windy Knoll in Springfield. Otherwise, there's not much in Cincy worth stopping for.
